This past summer (June 10th-13th), Coding in Color hosted a summer coding camp for high school students with the University of Advancing Technology (UAT). Students were engaged in a 4-day curriculum and given valuable resources about going to college with numerous guest speakers presenting and connecting through LinkedIn.

The Agenda:

Day 1: Introduction to Electricity

  • Students learned about electricity and how to build a simple circuit.  Using Arduino and learning how to code flashlights, sounds, and eventually a robot.

Day 2: Introduction to Robotics

  • Students went over robotics, using their knowledge of coding to write code that would make a robot successfully run through a maze. The team with the fastest run time would receive In-N-Out from next door.

Day 3: Introduction to Data Science

  • The students were introduced to data science and how to sort, map, and retrieve data. This would help them with day 4.

Day 4: Introduction to AI and Machine Learning

  • Students gathered data and fed it through a Machine Learning training model to see if it could recognize the data they were trying to train. They also had a lively discussion about the ethics of AI and resources like ChatGPT.

Overall, students had a great time, learned a lot about STEM, and gained valuable connections and resources for college.
